Continuing my literature review on CDTM, I spent time looking into current CDTM practices specifically within Georgia. Based on available data, 134 pharmacists have recently had a CDTM license, of which 103 have an active license and 31 have an expired license. About 70% worked at a clinic owned by a hospital or health system, while only 9% worked at private clinics or independent pharmacies. Services offered most commonly include chronic care management and medication therapy management, and the most frequent diseases treated include diabetes, high cholesterol, and hypertension. Surveys that assessed potential barriers and facilitators for CDTM among pharmacists found that potential facilitators include licensure being part of a job requirement, desire to expand patient care, job satisfaction, and opportunity to expand professional practice. Barriers found were administrative issues, obtaining continuing education, clinical concerns, and state regulations. Overall, this data highlights specific avenues for expanding the clinical roles of pharmacists but also issues that need to be addressed in further research.
