With my time in my internship this semester coming to a close, today I worked to finish analyzing the identified articles and summarizing the results from the literature review. The area of CDTM research I looked at today was the most common services offered by CDTM pharmacists. CDTM allows pharmacists to provide a wide array of primary care related services, however the services they actually do provide largely is determined by the physicians they are collaborating with and the tasks they are willing to release. Overall, the majority of CDTM pharmacists are permitted to adjust a drug’s strength, order laboratory tests, and change a drug’s frequency of administration. However, one specific study found that only about 32% of CDTM pharmacists were able to discontinue a drug, and 42% were allowed to initiate drug therapy. These results highlight the importance of streamlining CDTM services and expectations across providers since the services provided are individualized based on the collaborative partnership.
