While in the office today, I worked on looking into potential resources and collaborators for cancer research at the University of Georgia. Specifically, I was searching for resources to address issues with the cost of cancer treatment among women with breast cancer in rural areas. This is an important issue because the cost of treatment can be a significant factor in determining adherence to treatment protocol and overall health outcomes. Moreover, this problem heavily impacts individuals with low-income in rural areas who already face additional barriers to treatment and care. The University has a large group of researchers who study cancer and potential treatments, however this issue is more of a public health problem. The majority of the resources identified that could potentially help with this problem were found in the College of Public Health, specifically the departments of Health Promotion and Behavior and Health Policy and Management, the School of Social Work, and UGA Extension.
