Today, I continued to review background literature regarding CDTM. Initially, we were having some issues with the search being too narrow, but after broadening our search, more results were found. However, one of the biggest problems with this area of research is that a majority of it is from the early 2000s. While these articles can still provide good insight into this topic, there is a lack of current research, which emphasizes the need for more work to be done in this area. Most of the articles I found today focused on physician perceptions of advanced practice pharmacy and collaborative relationships with pharmacists. The studies utilized both quantitative methods such as surveys and qualitative methods such as in-depth interviews and focus groups. Most of these articles overwhelmingly found that improving the awareness of clinical pharmacy and collaborative practice is essential for the successful adoption of CDTM. The majority of physicians in each study reported positive perceptions of advanced clinical pharmacy and collaborative agreements with pharmacists. One of the most voiced concerns among physicians is the lack of training or preparation of pharmacists to provide such services, so increasing awareness of the advanced credentialing process required for CDTM may help address these concerns and increase cooperation among pharmacists and physicians.
