To recap, this week I worked on two important projects. First, I compiled important statistics that focused on demographics, economic development, and health of Pulaski County, Georgia. This information was then formatted into a presentation in a way that was easy to comprehend and understand and shared with the Pulaski Archway Executive Committee. This committee consists of relevant stakeholders, community members, leaders, and business professionals, and they are responsible for overseeing the creation of implementation of community projects, so this information is helpful for guiding discussion about potential projects and areas for growth. Second, I worked on creating two different spreadsheets that consisted of important health data regarding cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and demographics. These health issues are often more prevalent in rural and underrepresented communities for many reasons, so analyzing the causes and potential solutions to reduce these health gaps is crucial. Working on both of these projects this week has allowed me to continue to improve on my data analysis skills as well as being able to present information in a clear and concise way, which is critical for any public health work. Additionally, the work I accomplished this week will be expanded upon in future weeks and will support future initiatives, grant proposals, and projects, so I look forward to being able to continue that work in future weeks. The health promotion competencies met this week include:
- 1.1.2: Identify primary data, secondary data, and evidence-informed resources.
- 1.2.5: Determine the validity and reliability of secondary data.
- 1.3.1: Determine the health status of the priority population.
- 6.3.4: Employ media literacy skills.
- 6.4.3: Develop communication aids, materials, or tools using appropriate multimedia.
