During this week, I focused on editing a workforce development grant proposal, and I began familiarizing myself with a new downtown development project for Thomson-McDuffie. Having the opportunity to edit and revise the grant proposal allowed me to further my grant-writing skills and writing skills in general. Being able to communicate data and project goals clearly and effectively is an important skill in health promotion, and this task allowed me to do that. I also was able to further familiarize myself with all of the components of a grant proposal, which will be useful information in my future work both with Archway and as a professional in the workforce. The other project I worked on will probably take several weeks to complete. It involves meeting with community members and leaders to find out assets in their community that they would like to be highlighted in a promotional video. The goal of this video is to advertise businesses, significant locations, and historical attractions in order to increase engagement and utilization by both local community members and those outside the community. Tourism is a significant part of many rural economies and can further economic and community development. This project will allow me to improve upon my media literacy skills, which are important to have as a public health professional. The competencies met this week include:
- 7.4.4: Write grants and funding proposals.
- 6.2.1: Describe the intended outcome of the communication.
- 6.3.4: Employ media literacy skills.
- 6.4.3: Develop communication aids, materials, or tools using appropriate multimedia.
