While in the office today, I worked on recording data from a survey in one of our communities. The topic of the survey was transportation for working individuals. Lack of adequate transportation is often a major issue in rural communities, especially for workers. The survey was distributed to employees at common employers throughout the county. The survey asked questions such as how many miles are you from work, what are factors that make it difficult to keep a job, and how do you usually travel to work. Many of the survey responses stated that inadequate transportation was often a problem for finding and keeping a job long-term. Other questions focused on the creation of a public transportation option and asked what good pick-up/drop-off locations would be, if employees would be interested in using the service, and what they would be willing to pay, if anything at all. Overall, a variety of answers were received, but the respondents were very open to the idea of a public transportation option.
